Scrap Bansal report and form review panel, demand parents
Hundreds of parents from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and other districts of Maharashtra gathered at a meet organized to discuss further course of action in the matter of Bansal Committee report and formation of review committee, present fee structure of un-aided schools and proposed fee hike announced by management of various schools for current academic year (with retrospective effect) as well as next academic year.
The meet was organized under the joint banner of All India Federation of Parents' Teachers Association (AIFPTA), Students' Welfare Association (SWA) and Forum for Fairness in Education (FFFIE) along with many other organizations, associations, parents and representatives of various schools of Maharashtra. The meeting was held at new Panvel on January 10.
A K Pandey, general secretary of AIFPTA informed, "We have formulated a charter of demands to be taken up for securing the education of our wards and the future generation. Our major demand is scrapping of the Bansal Committee report".
M S Deshmukh, Vice President, AIFPTA added, "The government must appoint a statutory committee to review the Bansal Committee report and it must be constituted of people with experience in educational field and it must not be headed by a person in management of private schools. All of its proceedings must be made public and schools should not be allowed to increase their fees till final decision is taken by the government or the court".
Pandey further added "We had found that there is one more issue which is of utmost importance and cannot be ignored. There is a rise in the suicide cases of the students in the mere future accordingly we are also demanding to government to appoint a committee to take remedial measures to check the stress level of the children's and other reasons.
Representatives, parents, and students from St. Xavier's School - Nerul, Dr. DY Patil School - Pimpri, GKH Mandal's Parents Association - Pune, New Era School, Dadar Parsee School, Holy Angel School - Dombivli, Mahila Samiti School - Dombivili, DAV School - Airoli, Pandey Girls' High School - Mumbai Central, Podar School - Santacruz, DAV School - Panvel, Chatrabhuj Narsee School - Vile Parle, SIES School - Sion, Rajhans Vidyalaya - Andheri, Vasant Vihar School - Thane, Parle Tilak Vidyalaya - Vile Parle, Kharghar Parents Association, International Human Rights Commission, representatives from Nasik, Aurangabad, Nanded and Amarvati attended the meet.
