State Govt gives grant for developing playgrounds

State Govt gives grant for developing playgrounds
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation will develop school playgrounds with the grant to be received from state government by the New Year. Initially it will take up six NMMC playgrounds.
The corporation has recently organized a survey of each ward. It was found that there are 52 public playgrounds and 26 school playgrounds. These playgrounds are in a poor condition and lack basic amenities.
DS Chabukswar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner (Planning) says, "It was found that due to the absence of proper amenities and environment, there were fewer takers for sports. So under the Maharashtra sports policy the state government has extended grant to local government bodies to develop playgrounds".
The existing playgrounds will be flattened. Tracks of 200 metres or 400 metres will be made for running, building boundary wall, developing playgrounds based on various sports, constructing store room and toilet and developing water services. However, the state government has kept a few terms and conditions.
a. The proposed plot must always be used as playground and no other structure will be constructed.
b. Fifty per cent of the grant be utilized
c. The corporation will have to develop the playground even of the grant taken of 50 per cent turns less.
d. On the granted playground, no political event can be organized while it can be used for government programmes free of cost.
Chabukswar informs, 'We had forwarded our proposal around three months back to the state government and it is in the final stages, we hope that by the starting of the New Year we will be receiving the grant and accordingly the work will be initiated'.
