Nature lovers skeptical over awareness centre at Gavli Deo

Nature lovers skeptical over awareness centre at Gavli Deo
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to develop a Nature Awareness Centre at Gavli Deo Hill, Ghansoli. The said hill is one of the best picnic spot used by residents especially during rainfall. It has one of the best naturally developed waterfalls that attracts hundreds of residents from across the city.
Giving more information on the proposed project Prakash Kulkarni, Assistant Municipal Commissioner (Property Tax) informs, "In the year 1991-92 under a project of tree plantation Nocil factory based at Trans Thane Creek industrial belt in association with Forest department had developed a forest at Gavli Deo Hill, Ghansoli spread over 105 hectares. This was done to balance the pollution spread by the factory. However the company was closed and since then the said forest was not being taken care by anyone. And as the land comes under NMMC limits and has richness of nature the corporation has decided to sustain it and also ensure that more and more trees are planted and it can be kept open for the residents to learn about nature and environment.
However, nature lovers and environmentalists have expressed their concern over the idea. According to them since the forest was developed with chemical water released from the factory, there are no animals or birds visible at this site. Therefore, the corporation must ensure that the venue does not prove to be a health hazard for visitors who come here for picnic.
