Koper Khairane residents miffed over choked drains

Koper Khairane residents miffed over choked drains
NK Mishra, a resident says angrily, "The Corporation never fails to collect taxes on time. If we fail to pay on time, we are penalized but when it comes to providing proper basic amenities, there is nothing worth the name".
He adds, "If you just move around the area, you will be shocked to see the condition of drains. They are either filled with concrete waste or other garbage. At many places, their covers are broken or are missing," he adds.Narayan Shinde, another resident, says, "Every monsoon season we are forced to live amidst filthy conditions. The whole road stretch gets filled up with water as the drains are choked up. Conservancy workers of NMMC come here on regular basis but they say that it's not their job to clean the drains. Even in summer time there is a rise in the mosquito-borne diseases in our area due to filthy drainage line".
Shinde further points out, that electrical feeder boxes of MSEDC are always found open. In the monsoon season, the combination of water and electricity can prove fatal. "It's not that we have not contacted the corporation or MSEDC staff in this regard but all our efforts have been in vain," he adds.
Mishra adds, "As an add-on menace is the new gas lines laid by Mahanagar Gas Limited workers. They have laid the lines and left the opening of the cables on the ground just in front of society gates like in front of Ganga Sagar CHS, Plot-43, Sector-1. Very often children fail to notice them and fall down. At times elders too fall victims". The link pathway developed to link row houses with the main road of sector 4, is also in a pathetic condition. He says that, “due to such dilapidated conditions, we are keeping our fingers crossed and praying that we must not witness another
deluge like the one that came on July 26 in 2006".
