NMMC go-ahead for skywalk and underpass at Khairane Bonkode

NMMC go-ahead for skywalk and underpass at Khairane Bonkode
Residents of Koper Khairane and Vashi have a reason to heave a sigh of relief, as NMMC has passed a resolution for developing a skywalk and underpass at Khairane Bonkode.
Geographically Navi Mumbai residential area is in the midst of Thane Creek and Thane industrial belt. Most of the residents here work in industries of Thane. However, in the middle of residential and industrial areas is the railway line from Vashi to Thane and the busy Thane-Belapur road which has recently got concretized, allowing heavy vehicles to whiz past. In such a situation every second person crossing railway tracks or crossing the road faces danger to life.
Many accidents have already occurred here due to the absence of a proper skywalk to cross both the railway tracks and the busy road. Previously there was a footover bridge for crossing the railway track but now it is in a dilapidated condition. Moreover, as there was only one flyover for vehicles to reach the industrial belt from the residential area, it created traffic chaos and put lives at risk. The proposed undrpass will work as add-on to the present flyover. It will not only ease traffic congestion but also provide a safer drive.
Welcoming the proposal B Singh an industrialist says that this is one of the best decisions taken by the corporation. "Hundreds of youths are residing in Koper Khairane are working in call centres located in the industrial belt. These youths often fall victims of accident if they are in a hurry or are busy talking on mobiles, ignoring the oncoming vehicles".
City engineer Mohan Dagaonkar informs, "We have received several complaints and requests from residents of Koper Khairane. To ensure their safety this proposal was prepared. We believe the resolution will be brought in front of the standing committee within a couple of weeks and if everything falls in place we hope that the work will be completed within one year".
