Sector 6, 7 and 8 residents demand new bus routes

Sector 6, 7 and 8 residents demand new bus routes
Residents of Sector-6, 7 and 8 Vashi are deprived of the commonest mode of transportation in the form of a proper bus service. As there are only a few buses available for a couple of routes, they have been demanding over the years that NMMT should introduce more routes but all in vain.
Under the banner of Maharashtra Pravashi Saghatana, residents have been following up the issue with concerned authorities. Krishna Pandit, a social worker from the region informs, "There is a bus terminal near Wockhardt Hospital and from here buses are run for CBD and Thane only. Most of the residents here are working in the biggest industrial belt of MIDC at Trans Thane Creek. Unfortunately due to lack of availability of proper bus service from here, they are forced to move to the highway to hail a bus going towards Mumbai challenging, risking their lives amidst fast-moving vehicles. Or they have to get down at Vashi Bus Depot to get another bus for Kalyan or Dombivali. In both the situations, they have to face physical as well as mental stress and pay more than necessary".
Residents allege that the bus terminal was developed here decades ago, but it hardly serves the purpose it was built for. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport, which is one of the biggest local transport authorities having its outreach in each and every corner of the city, has failed to cater to residents in this part of the city.
An official from transport department informs that till municipal elections get over, the demand cannot be taken into consideration".
