Presently, the belt is being manned through three coastal police stations, one each at Mora, Nahva Sheva and NRI police stations. Approval of having 11 speed boats has also been received, but presently there is only one self-owned speed boat running off the shore. Moreover the needed police manpower is also very less. This is what has increased the threat for future and needed urgent consideration.
Navi Mumbai coastal belt will have 17 watch towers and develop nine check posts. Vashi will have three towers and one check post while one tower and a check post will be developed at Koperkhairane, two towers and one check post will come up at Rabale, one each tower will come up at Turbhe, Nerul and Mora. While NRI police station will receive three towers and Nahva Sheva will have two towers, Uran will have four towers and three check posts. This will be supported by 34 officers and 132 policemen. Along with the present speed boat three more will be added.
"Through all the measures we will be able to keep a strong vigil on all movements happening on the coastal belt to ensure safety of each and every resident," informs Namdeo Chavhan, Deputy Police Commissioner.
