NMMT plans to offer more sops for Volvo, AC bus users

NMMT plans to offer more sops for Volvo, AC bus users
NMMT general manager Jitendra Papalkar informs, "Presently, Volvo buses of NMMT are plying from CBD to Bandra but in future there will be more new buses and many more new routes will be initiated. Commuters have to travel for two to four hours a day on daily basis. The value of time in fast-moving cities like Mumbai and its suburb Navi Mumbai cannot be ignored. Considering the fact and to provide in-time service with joy to our valuable customers, we have come up with innovative service".
More specifically, he says, "We are planning to initiate sales of basic products needed for daily usage. The products which will be lined up are water, mobile recharge, books, monthly magazines, snacks, and cold drinks etc. However the project will be awarded for three months on pilot basis".
It may be recalled that couple of years back NMMT had installed Public Telephone as well as Mobile Bill drop boxes, but as days passed there was no one to take care of the services, which were then withdrawn.
About such things happening in future, he informs, "Previously it was the responsibility of service providing company, but this time it will be the responsibility of the bus conductor. He will have to keep track record of the sales of the products in the Log Book. There will also be proper lockers to keep the items in the buses".
"The undertaking will receive 10 per cent of the revenue of total sales, while to encourage conductors for sales they will be awarded four per cent of the MRP," he says.
Papalkar further adds, "The plan is still in initial stages and if things fall in place then by the month of December the service will be initiated".
Observers claim the step being planned by the NMMT is to gain more and more customers as compared to its only competitor BEST. Both the transport corporations are busy increasing their routes in the densely populated Navi Mumbai city. Just a week ago BEST has initiated its new AC bus service from Kalamboli to Wadala AS-503 at an interval of 25 minutes to wrest business of NMMT from this region. However, such services are always welcomed by the customers as they are able to gain more and more better service from both the transport majors.
