Navi Mumbai Vashi FOOTPATH IN SECTOR 3 GETS FACELIFT

In our January 21 issue, we had discussed about the problems faced by residents due to uneven footpath behind Galaxy cooperative Housing Society, Sector 3, Vashi.
Mofit Patel, a commuter said, "Many people live in this area and use this footpath daily. This pathway is from Vashi Railway Station to Vashi Bus Depot, Sector 9, 9A, 10, etc. The footpath was earlier in a very bad condition as it was uneven and dug up at many areas."
Ward Officer Ashok Madhavi had promised to look into the matter and act accordingly at that time. And as promised, the work was initiated by the officials for giving respite to pedestrians.
Patel added, "From many months, we were running after the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to solve this problem but to no avail. It is only due to interference of Cityplus, the NMMC has taken up the work of repairing the footpath. This has brought a big sigh of relief to residents."

NAVI MUMBAI - RESIDENTS OF GHANSOLI CRAVE FOR BASIC AMENITIES

Ghansoli residents have been facing problems due to laxity of officials of developing authority CIDCO and administrating authority NMMC. The residents are not able to avail the benefits of various basic amenities.
Deepak Patil, a resident said, "Ghansoli is a newly developed area where development is still under progress. Sector 1 to 7 and 9 have been developed by CIDCO and handed over to NMMC. Sectors 8, 15, 16 and 17 are still developing. The number of residents are increasing day by day so is the need of basic amenities. Instead of developing gardens, library, gym, etc, the developing authority has only developed sewerage treatment plant in the area. The residents have been deprived of almost all kinds of services."
S Waghmare, another resident said, "Kamaltai P, the former Corporator of the area had been demanding a garden for welfare of children, women and senior citizens of area for a long time. But the NMMC had told us that this project of garden has been delayed as CIDCO has not handed over plot to NMMC till now." Shobha Patil, present corporator, said, "In June last year, I had demanded land for garden, gym, library, etc. But till date, the NMMC has not done anything in this regard. The plots that were to be developed as park have been turned into garbage dump. This has troubled many residents as parks are very important for children, women and senior citizens. It's high time for the NMMC to consider these demands seriously as basic amenities like playground, library, gym, etc are very important for overall development of the society."
Ghansoli NMMC Ward Officer Bhaskar Sansane said, "There are couples of gardens available for the residents, however, we have still not received any new orders from headquarters and hence commenting on the issue is presently not possible, however, as the developments are still going on, the said services will also be provided soon."

Navi Mumbai : Vashi : VAIDH GARDEN NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF

Providing beautiful park for children to play and for the women and senior citizen to jog, walk and talk are the two mottos of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). However, when it comes to maintaining the amusement games at the parks, it is being ignored at almost every garden-allege the little kids of the city. Denis Warghese, a resident of Mahalaxmi Co Operative Housing Society and a regular visitor of J Arunkumar Vaidh Garden in Sector 10 said, "One pair of swing was removed by few youth and one more swing seat has also broken and its sharp edges has threatened the kids coming here."
Subham Kadam, another resident says, "At the entrance of this garden, the CIDCO developed a bridge like structures, with bars on either side to ensure safety. However, as the powers transformed the present administrating body NMMC has failed to maintain the park. One of the safety bars has fallen down and no one has ever thought of reinstalling it. The kids are running up and down and the threat of their falling is growing day by day."
The gardener looking after the garden says, "It's only because of my complaints the local Corporator had visited the park three months ago. The heads of the department of garden had also paid a visit here and assured that the equipments would be replaced at the earliest. Social worker Kishore Biswas of SAYA says, "It is mandatory for the garden officer to inspect each and every garden on regular basis and note down the complaint made by the visitors and act accordingly. Unfortunately, the garden officer hardly visits the garden. That's why, the gardener and people's representative have to approach the ward office and demand for the safety of the residents. But nothing has been done yet."
Vijay Kamble, garden officer Vashi said, "I have received the complaint and have personally visited the site. We will ensure that the old broken amusement games will be replaced with the new ones at the earliest to ensure the safety of the residents."

Navi Mumbai : HELPLINE FOR SSC, HSC STUDENTS BEGINS

Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to start a helpline for students appearing for SSC and HSC examinations. This helpline will serve as a basic information provider. However, the steps taken for autistic kids have drawn criticism from professionals who demand expert people for this purpose.
Helpline number 27893756 has been started from February 15 and is on from 8 am to 9 pm daily. The state board has also announced that its website, www.sscboardmumbai. in, will be providing all the information related to upcoming SSC and HSC examinations to solve any problem faced by students.
RR Bhise, divisional secretary, State Board, Mumbai, said, "Both kids and parents can avail the helpline facility. The website will also help them. At the same time, separate guidelines have been issued for autistic kids appearing for the exams. They will be allotted exam centres which will be convenient for them to reach. Further, such students will be given 20 minutes extra per hour. Though such kids will be allowed to use a calculator, the condition is that it should not be attached to any of the other facilities like a mobile phone."
Kader Bux', a parent said, "Such practices really help a lot. Initially at our time, it was all last moment running to find whatsoever we wanted. This techno system has given a great sigh of relief to us, parents as well as students who are under stress and run from here and there at this time."
Shirish Poojary, Founder and Principal, Swami Brahmanand Pratisthan, Centre for Special Children said, "Providing extra twenty minutes is not a solution. Each Autistic kid is different from other. Their ability is far different, it is only the professionals who can decide what extra time the kid needs, in few cases there is no time limit. Twenty minutes will not help. The board must appoint or consider suggestions from some high-end professionals before deciding such things."
