Navi Mumbai : Vashi : AMBEDKAR HALL CRAVES FOR AUTHORITIES ATTENTION

There are many community centres and multipurpose buildings developed by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation for overall development of the area. However, it has always failed to maintain these centres. One of such centres is Dr Babashaheb Ambedkar Hall of Sector 9, Vashi.
Inderjeet Singh (Lovely), a resident said, "NMMC's plan of developing multipurpose structures for residents is always welcome. As the residents are able to organise local events like small birthday party, marriage party, Durga Puja, Ganeshotsav, small competitive events like dance and singing competitions, events for women like Halidi Kum Kum, etc. And all of these are low budget events. But to dismay of residents, these structures are not maintained properly by the authorities.”
For every resident, this structure is like their prestige and while they organise the event here the look represents one's status. Babashaheb Ambedkar Hall has been in ruins for a long time due to which nobody is able to organise any event here.
All the windows are broken. Cleanliness drive is organised only when any event is organised here. Garbage is also dumped here which troubles residents a lot.
Vashi ward officer Ashok Madhavi said, "Usually these multipurpose structures are taken care by scheme department of NMMC. I have not received any complaint as of now and am not aware of the fact, but will definitely look into the matter and forward the complaint to the concerned department. "
The assurance has, however, not brought any happiness to the residents. V Pawar, a resident said, "The corporation is very well aware as their Ghanta Gadi people and conservancy look at the filth on a daily basis
but none of them have ever touched the garbage. It is the responsibility
of the ward officer to
carry out survey around the city and sustain the property."

Navi Mumbai : Vashi : GARBAGE PROBLEM TROUBLES SECTOR 16, 16 A RESIDENTS

Garbage problem has been troubling the residents of Sector 16 and 16 A for a long time. This problem has arisen due to apathy of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
Vijay Walunj, a resident said, "NMMC initiated Ghanta Gadi system that brought in the module of having just one garbage bin for one lane. This was introduced to keep the city clean. The practice was welcomed by the residents as the process assured cleanliness. The garbage bin for lane along St Lawrence School was placed on footpath near Greenfield Society. Just a month back, one of the contractor was allotted the work for reducing the size of the footpath to end the chaotic condition on this road. This was done keeping in mind, the number of students of Karamveer Bhaurao Patil College and St Lawrence High School using this route. However, the students were previously barred from using footpath due to garbage bin but the things have turned from bad to worse now."
Praveen Jadhav, a resident of Greenfield Society said, "The NMMC contractor has now brought the garbage bin on the street. Previously, we thought it was because of the work being carried out. But the work has ended around a month back now, but the bin has not been repositioned. Nobody including NMMC is bothered about this problem. Pedestrians face a lot of problems in crossing this stretch as footpath is uneven and the road is filled with garbage.” Moreover, the road from St Lawrence School to KBP College has been closed for traffic, but many vehicle drivers ply on this road too violating all rules. Due to this, any untoward incident can happen anytime here.
Walunj added, "The only solution is that the bin should be placed at a proper place and police should keep a strict vigil and penalise the violators."
Vashi Ward Officer Ashok Madhavi said, "I am not aware about this problem but will send my staff to take care of it at the earliest."

Navi Mumbai : COMMUTERS ARE FACING HUGE PROBLEM IN CROSSING ROADS

These days, commuters are facing a big problem to cross the lane from Sector 9 and 10 towards Sector 15 and 16 due to nonstop running of vehicles. Social worker Kishor Biswas said, "Sector 9 and 10 of Vashi are the only two big markets for vegetables and daily goods, while Sector 15 hosts the biggest cloth market of Navi Mumbai. However, these commercial places lack basic amenities. The worst part is the services provided by the traffic police department."
Trupti Jhambulkar, a frequent visitor to these market says, "I and my friends usually come down to Vashi for shopping and our favourite market is the cloth market at Sector 15. This is the market, where we get the entire latest trend attires at a comparatively cheaper rate. But crossing the road from here to other end is very troublesome." Another visitor Minakshi Ughade says, "Being the main link road that connects Mumbai to Koper Khairane, there is a heavy traffic rush on it. But the vehicles riders do not care to slow down their vehicles at the zebra crossings."
"The major problem is the jumping of traffic signals by the vehicles at the fire station as well as near to Sabari hotel. Had the vehicles stopped at these signals the pedestrians would have enough time to cross the road," Biswas added.
On the other hand traffic police sub inspector Hande said, "Looking at the large number of visitors visiting here, we do have deputed traffic police at the signal near the fire station and Sabri hotel. Sometimes due to absence of our man, people violate laws and jump the signals. We will ensure that traffic police personnel will vigil there round the clock."

Navi Mumbai : ENCROACHMENTS CONTINUE TO EAT UP SPACES AVAILABLE AT MARKETS

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has always been reluctant in taking up action against the encroachments happening across the city. To earn some extra bucks, the shop owners are openly violating the anti encroachment laws at Vashi, the prime business hub of Navi Mumbai.

Riyaz Shaikh, a social worker said, "In big markets like Sector 9, 10, 15, 16 and Sector 17, the shopkeepers make use of the marginal space available in front of their shops. The cloth shop owners keep their mannequins to display their cloth. But the hoteliers are way ahead in breaking laws. Vaidehi and Sabri hotel of Sector 9 and Sajong of Sector 10 have occupied their marginal places with their tables. Hotel Navratna has used the space for its kitchen. There are few cases, where the space is given on rent for selling snacks."
NMMC Vashi Ward Officer, Ashok Madhavi said, "During monsoon, we allow hoteliers to put up small temporary sheds in front of their hotels for the convenience of the customers. Just three months ago, with the help of Anti Encroachment Department, we had taken strict action against all such violators. We removed the sheds developed illegally and freed the encroached spaces. We also take regular action against all such violators. But, it is really impossible to carry out such drive on a daily basis; as such drive needs support from police and man power from the Anti Encroachment Department, which is not possible."
The statement of the ward officer has only raised the concern of the authorities for keeping the city free from encroachment. The residents are now looking for more action from the anti-encroachment Municipal Commissioner Bhaskar Wankhede. Deputy municipal commissioner of Anti Encroachment Department Subhash Gaikar said, "Right now, all our ward officers are busy for census study. So, we are carrying out the anti-encroachment drive in a slow pace. However, after 10 days the drive will be organised on a larger scale to curb the problem."
